LOAC

Course on International Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC)

REPORT

The twelfth session of the course on the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) -was held in Spiez, August 20-27, 2010. This session was a resounding success, due to the work of Col. Hans BAER (who has perfected the organization of the course over the years), to the significant support given by the Swiss Armed Forces and to the care putinto selecting the trainers. It was attended by 54 participants from 25 countries: Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Gabon, Georgia, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Jordan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia,Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

-Some of the participants were also interested in becoming trainers for future sessions or delocalized sessions in other countries. The quality of the course itself and the way it was organized was recognized and appreciated by all those attending. The organized excursions were also an enjoyable opportunity to see the Bernese Oberland and to get to know each other. There was an excellent atmosphere which allowed participants to be actively involved in thecourse. -We hope that this will lead to long term friendships between the participants themselves and the staff, in keeping with the spirit of the ICMM. At the closing ceremony, we were honored with the presence of a number of high ranking officials, including the Army Chief of Staff, the Air Force Chief of Staff, the Head of Armed Forces Medical Services and well-known diplomatic and civilian figures.
