PAN ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL WORKING GROUP

The Regional Assembly of the Pan Asia-Pacific Regional Working Group was opened by the actual Secretary of the Regional Working Group, Colonel Prapaipim THIRAKHUPT in the presence of the Secretary General of the ICMM, Major General (ret) Dr. Roger VAN HOOF.

A brief history about the start of the Regional Working group and an overview of the activities of the group during the chairmanship of China was given by the representative of China, the actual Vice-Chair. The Pan Asia-Pacific Regional Working Group was accepted by the General Assembly of the ICMM during the 38th ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2009. The first Regional Congress of the Group and the first Regional Assembly was organized in October 2010 in Beijing.

There were 340 participants from 83 countries. The ICMM representative of China was the first chairman from 2010 to 2012. As important scientific activity was mentioned: the International Seminar on Medical Military Logistics, held in Shanghai, China in 2011.

The second Pan Asia-Pacific Regional Congress with the second Regional Assembly was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2012. Thailand took over the chairmanship from 2012 to 2014. There were 400 delegates from 22 countries. Scientific activities: a Regional LOAC course in Shanghai in 2013 with 37 participants from 13 countries and a Seminar on Medical Preparedness for CBRN warfare and terrorism with 91 participants from 10 countries.

The next Pan Asia-Pacific Regional Congress and Regional Assembly will be organized by Russia in 2016. A preparatory meeting for this Regional Congress and Regional Assembly will be held during the next (41st) ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine in Bali, Indonesia, in May 2015. Meanwhile Thailand and Russia will co-chair the Regional Working Group.

In the actual Pan Asia-Pacific Regional Working Group are 16 member states and 1 official observer.
