The Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services once again had the opportunity to host the International ICMM Law of Armed Conflict and Medical Ethics Course Serial 7/2018.

The course was conducted from 23 until 27 July 2018 at the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC) in the beautiful town of Port Dickson, Malaysia. Colonel Johan CROUSE (Rtd) represented ICMM and was also the Co-course Commander and was assisted by Professor Colonel (ret.) Ivan KHOLIKOV (Russia), Colonel (Dr) Mohamad Asri BIN DIN (Malaysia) and Colonel (Dr) Tan HOOI MOOI (Malaysia).

The course attracted a total of 29 participants, one officer from US Regional Health Command - Pacific, one officer from Royal Thai Navy and 27 other participants from the Malaysian Armed Forces. Malaysian participants were represented by health care providers such as medical officers, dental officers and pharmacists from the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services, legal officers from Malaysian Army and Royal Malaysian Air Force and staff officer from Inspector General’s Office of the Royal Malaysian Navy. The five days course which was based on the Reference Course in Spiez, allowed participants to familiarize, recognize and analyze LOAC with respect to specific missions and functions of the medical services.

In his final report, Colonel CROUSE congratulated the participants for their interactiveness and active participation, particularly in the syndicate activities, thus making the course a great success. He also congratulated the Organizing Committee headed by Colonel (Dr) Lotfi BIN ANUAR for the team’s commitment and great effort in ensuring the smooth running of the Course.

Lieutenant General Dato’ (Dr) Hj Ya’akop BIN KOMING, the Director General of the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services, in his closing speech expressed his gratitude to the ICMM and its faculty of esteemed lecturers for their continuous support of this Regional Course for the seventh series and hoped that this course will continue to be held in the coming years and host more participants from other countries in this region. Dato’ further expressed his gratitude towards the Commandant of MPC and his team for hosting the course participants with comfortable working area, wonderful accommodation and delicious meals.
