From 7th to 12th November 2016, the 7th ICMM International Course for health support in Saharan environment, was held and organized by the Military Health General Directorate of TUNISIA, under the aegis of the Tunisian Minister of Defense and of the ICMM.

The course was divided in four modules, each consisting of theoretical lectures and practical exercises in workshops or in the field.

Once more, the Tunisian hosts organized a really interesting course which ripens from year to year and which prepare participants for a better approach to operational deployment in the peculiar environment of desert.

Combining theoretical and practical training, the modules (given in French or in English with simultaneous translation) provided participants with the latest developments in the addressed topics; courses were given by civilian and military professors of the Tunisian universities, as well as by military doctors and veterinaries.

During this training, exchanges of experiences allowed participants to discuss some national specificity.

Practical activities significantly completed the theoretical aspects that were previously taught in a structured approach. Furthermore, a self-assessment system was implemented in order to allow participants to gauge the level of their knowledge before and after each training day.

During a visit to the 2nd Saharan Territorial Group, participants discovered the peculiarities of a camel patrols and were presented the specificities relating to work in the desert, in symbiosis with the camel and the environment. Specific nutritional and supply aspects were addressed during this visit.

At the end of a one-week teaching, the Tunisian organizing committee enabled to discover an aspect of the significant role of the Tunisian Armed Forces in a project of palm grove exploitation in RJIM MATTOUG, with specific goals such as fight again desertification and socio-economic integration of nomadic populations.
