REPORT OF THE 5th COURSE OF WATER MANAGEMENT
AND SAFETY IN CRISIS SITUATION


The 5th course of Management and Sanitary Water Safety in crisis situation, recommended by the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) was held during the period from February 03 to 08, 2020 at the Military Health Service’s School (EASSM) in Tunis.

This course was organized by the Tunisian General Directorate of Military Health (DGSM), and in partnership with the French Armed Forces' Health Services (DCSSA) and with National School of Veterinary Medicine of Sidi Thabet (ENMV) - University La Manouba (ULM). It was presented in French with simultaneous translation to English. The opening and closing ceremony of the course were chaired by Senior Colonel (Pr) M. FERJANI, Surgeon General of Tunisian Armed Forces.

This international session was delivered to 25 participants including 12 Tunisians and from 07 countries (Germany, Oman, Ivory Coast, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Tunisia).

The Faculty members were eminent professors from the Val de Grace School (France), the ENMV, the National Center for Nuclear Science and Technology - ULM and the Tunisian Faculty of Medicine (TFM). - University Tunis El Manar (UTM) and by German and Tunisian veterinarians, civilian and military, specialists in Water Management.

This course has been accredited by the National Authority for Assessment and Accreditation in Healthcare (INEAS) with 22 CPDU (Continuing Professional Development Unit). Evaluation forms were given before and after each conference and at the end of the course to be analysis by the evaluation committee in order to improve the quality of the next sessions of the course.

The teaching program lasted for a week. The scientific committee has elaborated a diversified program alternating conferences, educational workshops, practical activities and field visits (Naval Base of Bizerte, Unit of Military Engineering, Water Production and Distribution Station "SONEDE").

This course offered to participants the opportunity to visit water production and treatment facilities as well as water quality control units. It was an opportunity to learn about practical cases as well as the use of documentary, regulatory and normative tools in the field of water management in exceptional situations.

It also provided information on the practical conditions of water treatment by using operational military means and on conditions of production and treatment of water on board of navy units. In the same context, a renowned laboratory in the field of water has given access to our participants to see the new devices for producing and controlling water during military operations.

The cultural program organized on the sidelines of the course was rich and during which the participants had the opportunity to visit the Arab and Mediterranean music center "Al-Najma Al-zahraa" in Sidi Bou Saïd without forgetting the pleasure of tasting the delights of Tunisian gastronomy in a typically traditional setting.

The organizing committee is relying on the active participation of candidates from different ICMM country members in the 6th session that will be organized in Tunisia during the period from January 31 to February 4, 2022.
