REPORT OF THE 5th ICMM COURSE FOR
HEALTH SUPPORT IN SAHARAN ENVIRONMENT

For six years, this course organized with the support of the Health Service of the Tunisian Armed Forces, became an annual event for military doctors wishing to expand their knowledge and share their experiences in the field of medical support of troops deployed in Saharan environment. This course, previously scheduled in November had be postponed.

The Director of Health, Brigadier General Prof. M. YEDEAS, M.D., chaired the opening ceremony. Major General Prof. (ret.) M. MORILLON, M.D., Chairman of the Scientific Council, represented the ICMM.

Participants:
The course was delivered to 25 participants from 13 countries (Algeria, Bahrain, Belgium, France, Gabon, Germany, Jordan, The Netherlands, Oman, Palestine, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia,).

Teaching team:
The Coordinator of the course was Senior Colonel Prof. M. CHIBANI, M.D.
Teachers came from France, Morocco, USA and Tunisia.

Venue of the course
The accommodation was provided at the hotel El Mouradi**** in Tozeur. Theoretical lessons were held in the conference rooms of the hotel, which also hosted workshops and the course secretariat.

Practical demonstrations in the Sahara were held, with the logistical support of the Tunisian armed forces (Department of Health, Army, Camel Corps company), in the area of ??"Ong Jemal" and around the town of Douz, after a two-hour trip including crossing the Chott Jerid.

The scientific program consisted of 5 modules:
1 - Heat-related Diseases.
2 - Diseases related to the environment.
3 - Medical Support in Saharan environment.
4 - Survival in Saharan environment.
5 - Scorpion and ophidian envenomation.

The Course Evaluation Committee met in Tozeur. He decided for the sixth session in 2015, to further expand the place given to practical teaching and exchanges between countries having experienced military operations in desert environment. The next course should be organized in November in a season with better meteorological conditions.
