SYNTHESIS OF THE 40th WORLD CONGRESS
AND THE 40th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE ICMM


The 40th World Congress on Military Medicine and the 40th General Assembly of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) held in JEDDAH, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from December 07 till December 12 was a real success. The numerous national delegations that attended the scientific sessions and the sessions of the General Assembly contributed to this success.

The Chairman and the Secretary-General of the ICMM expressed their sincere thanks to the MOD for having delegated High Representatives to the different sessions of the General Assembly.

Their active participation allowed the ICMM to endorse important decisions for the future of our Committee.

The main decisions taken are dealing with a dedicated resolution concerning:
- security issues for the ICMM activities,
- the endorsement of several Regulations of Internal Orders,
- the changes of the ICMM Statutes for facilitating the admissions of new member states,
- as well as important financial issues concerning the calculation of the membership fees (based on more accurate and objective criteria),
- and the budget of the Committee for the two coming years.

Six countries were admitted on this occasion as a full member of the ICMM:
- Guinea,
- Mexico,
- Oman,
- Qatar,
- Sri Lanka and,
- Zambia.

The Principality of Monaco resigned from the Committee.

Uzbekistan, Palestine, Iran and Kenya became the status of “Observer”.

The ICMM counts 110 member states and four observer states.

The relationship with International Organizations was reinforced and we had the opportunity to discuss the collaboration on an international and regional basis with the World Health Organization (WHO) concerning the implementation of the International Health Regulation 2005 and with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) concerning its very important program “Health Care in Danger”. The Evidence Aid - Project was presented by the Cochrane Institute.

The ICMM National representatives received the complete report of the meeting and all the documentation discussed during the General Assembly.

The General Assembly decided to accept the proposal of the MOD of Indonesia to host the next (41st) World Congress on Military Medicine and the ICMM General Assembly in BALI, the Republic of Indonesia in May 2015.

The Republic of India proposed to organize the 42nd World Congress on Military Medicine and the ICMM General Assembly in NEW DHELI in 2017, and this was accepted by the General Assembly.
