The 3rd Congress of the Maghrebian Regional Working Group of the International Committee of Military Medicine has been held in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, from 2013 April 17 to 21.

Besides participation from the host country( roughly 200 participants), one could observe the presence of several delegations from Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Gabon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Soudan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and United States of America.

Four main themes have been chosen:
- Management of psychological trauma in exceptional situations.
- Preparedness of health services to terrorist threat.
- Role of health services in natural disasters management
- Care to wounded people in under medicalized area.

Many communications were related to psychological injuries, topic well known in some members countries and less known in other which was an excellent opportunity for exchanges. All four topics of military interest have been illustrated by lectures from international experts and oral communications and posters from participants. All sessions have been held in a friendly spirit and some exchanges might be the beginning for regional bilateral cooperation.

All participants highly appreciated the wonderful welcome of our Mauritanian colleagues fully in the tradition of desert people.
