REPORT OF THE 1st CONFERENCE ASIA PACIFIC MILITARY HEALTH EXCHANGE

The ICMM was present at the first Asia Pacific Military Health Exchange (APMHE) organised in Da Nang, Vietnam from September 14 to 18, 2015, and co-hosted by the Military Medical Department (MMD) of the Vietnam People’s Army, and US pacific Command. The overarching theme of the conference was "Global Health Cooperation".

The Secretary General of the ICMM, Major General (ret) Dr. Roger VAN HOOF, delivered a keynote address entitled "Global Health Cooperation and Military Health Services". The Director of Communication of the ICMM, Mr. Paul ZABOURI, was present at the ICMM booth to inform people about the ICMM, its activities and its scientific Review.

The APMHE combined previously separate military health meetings led by United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) components: Asia Pacific Military Medical Conference (led by U.S. Army Pacific, USARPAC), Asia Pacific Military Nursing Exchange (led by Pacific Air Forces, PACAF) and Senior Navy Medical Leaders Symposium (led by Pacific Fleet, PACFLT/7th FLT). This was an opportunity for more than 400 participants, military health professionals, from 23 countries in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, to share information and best practices and address global health concerns.

This event coincided with the 20th Anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam relations.

The APMHE conference agenda included plenary sessions on current global health topics and breakout sessions divided by Corps (Medical, Nurse, Administrative, Public Health and Veterinary services, Enlisted Medical Professionals), Service (Ground, Air, Maritime) and ‘train- treat- trust’topics.

The closing ceremony, chaired by Major General Dr. Vu Quoc BINH, Director of the Military Medical Department (MMD) of the Vietnam People’s Army and Vice Admiral Colin CHINN, commander in chief of the medical branch of the USPACOM, the participants were invited to the next (second) APMHE Conference, to be held in August 2016 in Malaysia.
