WELCOME MESSAGE

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are honored and pleased to announce that Tunisian General Directorate of Military Health organizes, under the aegis of the ICMM, the 8th International Course for Health Support in Saharan Environment from October 16th to 20th, 2017 in the city of Tozeur.

The desert is a particularly hostile environment to humans and even more to medical practicing in such area. This environment is known for its extreme weather conditions, its particular flora and fauna varieties. In Sahara, water management can be a very difficult task and can be a source of various diseases and that management needs a good knowledge of this environment.

This course, highly requested by national and international scientific community, became a real specialized training on the Saharan diseases. It allows the learners to extend their knowledge and share their experiences in the field of medical support in extreme conditions. In order to guarantee a better immersion in Saharan environment, the course includes some workshops about desert survival.

This event gained more interest these last years because of the constantly increasing rate of humanitarian crisis and armed conflicts in Saharan areas. These crises were responsible of refugees’ influx requiring more military health service deployments for medical assistance.

Distinguished national and international speakers will give the lectures; they belong to civilian and military partners’ institutions.

The International Course for Health Support in Saharan Environment is also a pleasant opportunity to discover the wonderful natural sites of the Tunisian desert.

We, kindly, invite you to take part to this course and we are looking forward hosting you and your country representatives in the beautiful city of Tozeur, at the door of the Tunisian desert.

Brigadier General (MD) Mondher YEDEAS
Surgeon General of Tunisian Armed Forces
