CHAIRMAN MESSAGE

Dear colleagues and friends,

I hereby announce the holding of the 2nd International Military Congress of Tropical and Travel Medicine and the 2nd International Congress of the Tunisian Society of Tropical Medicine and Travel (STMTV) which will take place in Hammam Sousse from 7 to 9 October 2021.

These congresses, initially scheduled for October 2020, had to be postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2nd International Military Congress of Tropical and Travel Medicine will be organized by the General Directorate of Military Health under the patronage of the Minister of National Defense, under the aegis of the International Committee of Military Medicine, in collaboration with the Tunisian Society of Tropical Medicine and Travel, the Faculty of Medicine of Sousse and the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases. It will be accredited by the National Health Accreditation Authority in accordance with the criteria of the continuing professional development of the health professional. In addition to the requirement of the valid vaccination certificate, the health protocols against Covid-19 will be respected.

Tropical medicine remains of particular interest to any military doctor given the increasing frequency of deployments of military troops around the world and the variety of their environments. This discipline, long considered the prerogative of tropical regions, has become the focus of interest around the world, particularly because of the many humanitarian crises observed in recent years in different regions of the world. These crises have sometimes resulted in an influx of refugees and required the deployment of forces and the assistance of military health services.

Globalization and the ease of transport of goods and people have contributed to the spread of pathogens and their vectors. Travel medicine includes not only tropical diseases but also other health problems that have developed through the frequency of different types of travel. The doctors solicited were required to diagnose these pathologies and to take care of them.

This congress will bring together eminent speakers, military and civilian, national and international, from partner academic institutions. It is designed to be enriching for participants who come to deepen their knowledge and exchange experiences in the field of management of tropical, sub-Saharan and emerging diseases. Workshops, debriefings and a poster session are planned.

It will also be an opportunity for some of you to discover the Sahel of Tunisia through a rich cultural program. Transfer and accommodation facilities are provided by the congress committee.

I remind you that the idea of organizing this congress came before the relevance and importance of the theme but also the success of the 10 sessions of the Tunisian-German course of Tropical Medicine and the 1st International Military Congress of Tropical Medicine.

Senior Colonel MD Maher BEJI
Congress Chairman
